Free Online Parish Register Search
We have now made available an online searchable database of all the parish registers we have indexed so far, plus some additional material not yet published in book form. The records we have indexed are taken from Kirk Session material of the Church of Scotland and other Presbyterian churches. They are not part of the Church of Scotland Old Parish Registers (or OPRs) as found on the Scotland's People site. They therefore contain many records of births, marriages and deaths which are not to be found anywhere else. Click here to see current database coverage.

Free Online Paternity Case Search
We have now made available an online searchable database for paternity cases in Sheriff Courts in the south of Scotland. These include a few other aliment cases concerning desertion as well as some breach of promise to marry cases. At present, the index covers the years 1830-1914 for Dumfries; 1830-1914 for Duns; 1894-1914 for Hawick; 1831-1892 for Jedburgh; 1830-1914 (excluding the years 1877-78, 1890-91 and 1907-09 which are missing from the records) for Kirkcudbright; 1837-1914 for Peebles; 1830-1914 for Selkirk, 1887-1914 for Stranraer and 1831-1914 for Wigtown. This represents all surviving cases from 1830-1914 in the Registers of Decrees for those courts. Cases from the few surviving 18th century decree books for Jedburgh 1748-1753, Kirkcudbright 1748-1765, and Selkirk 1751-1757 & 1782-1793 are also included.
The index also includes cases from Edinburgh Sheriff Court from 1830-1840 (indexing in progress for years to follow). Also included are cases indexed from the original court papers (processes) for Dumfries from 1853, Jedburgh from 1822-1914, Kirkcudbright from 1850-1854 and Stranraer from 1849-1914.
Cases after 1914 have not been added to the index for privacy reasons, but will be added on an annual basis in future years. Other years and new Sheriff Courts will soon be added, so please keep checking this page for updates. We gratefully acknowledge the assistance of Margaret Hamilton in this indexing project.
